Aegis Volunteer Job Services

It's our job to help teens and senior citizens find a job

Work for Teens                                                         Job Seeker

WELCOME to our Volunteer Services. We are a complete volunteer job placement service for senior citizens and young adults. Aegis Volunteer Job Services is an   out of the kindness of your heart volunteer program in which no one receives any pay.

  Our Mission

"We must view young people not as empty bottles to be filled, but as candles to be lit."--Robert H. Shaffer

“We must view our senior citizens as wise people who know the way and who could guide and assist the younger people in going the way” – L. Louis Jordan

Aegis Volunteer Job Services mission is to remain the "go to" webpage and online career and recruitment site for Monmouth County, New Jersey teenagers and senior citizens. This endeavor meets a growing need for today's youth  and senior citizens and fills a void in targeted low cost local recruitment advertising.

When we launched Aegis on April 15th, 2010, and after considerable research, no other companies were helping seniors and teens on a county basis. We were the first online county service dedicated to Monmouth County Senior Citizens actively seeking work.

Job hunting for teens is haphazard at best. More than 80% of teens starting at the age of 14 want to work. Many teens feel their income is a necessity rather than a luxury. Others realize that work-based learning early in life will help prepare them for the future.

If you are the parent of a teen:
Does your teen know how to find a safe and learning enriched work opportunity?

We catch young people at the moment “they” feel they are ready to work. It is at this time that young people make critical choices that affect their transition into adulthood and shape their perceptions about the world of work. Work experience at this stage in life is critical, and people who spend a large share of their young adult years unemployed have a hard time finding and keeping a job later in life.

Our Founder

L. Louis Jordan, founder of Aegis is a seasoned law enforcement executive who has a impressive history of networking with business professionals and placing both young adults and senior citizens to work.

Mr. Jordan is a published author, noted speaker and an expert resource to gangs, cultural diversity, school violence,  and community and public relations. He manages a staff of thirteen and many volunteers.

MORE SENIOR CITIZENS ARE SEEKING JOBS

With rents and property taxes increasing, along with medical costs and gas prices, many retirees are re-entering the work force to make ends meet.

Across Monmouth County, more and more senior citizens are searching for jobs because they can no longer afford not to work.

I’ve spoke to one lady who has gotten behind in her rent, and she’s desperate for work. She’s about a week away from being evicted, and she’s was panicking. We were blessed to be in a possession of help, aid and assisting her. She is now gainfully employed at a local McDonalds and is doing well.

Retirees used to dream of settling back and living off nest their eggs. For some, that’s no longer enough.

One woman said, “If you want to keep your home, pay for your medication or have any type of life, you have to work.”

Tracking those who have re-entered the labor market isn’t easy. When our teens and seniors come to the cross roads we want to be there to assist.

What we found across the country is that older workers are staying in their current jobs longer as a result of financial uncertainties.

Some return to work because they miss their jobs or want to stay physically and socially active.

The U.S. Labor Department reports that more than 5 million adults age 65 and older worked last year, or about 15 percent of all senior citizens.

People are placed depending on a combination of their interests, skills, and employer needs.  Duties vary depending on the employer and their needs.
